That is a lot of driving, but California from what I am told (only been to San Fran and LA) is enjoyable. You can see all different types of environments from forest to deserts in a day's trip. Or so I am told.

I went into it a bit more on the entry from the beginning of my trip where I drove north across California, the fast way I did in this entry is fairly boring, but there's longer routes along the coast that are beautiful. There's also a desert route east of the Sierra Nevada mountains I haven't taken for years that I rather fancy I'm a bit overdue for. And if one can work the redwoods in the northwest of the state into one's trip its well worth it!!
