Oh, man, you are the boss of short travels. I admire you. This sounds lovely, and I appreciate that YOU appreciate your friends' lovely friends.

One of my fantasies, maybe never to be realized, is to travel all around with a backpack, sleeping on train station floors, staying in hostels, and being 50 years older than all the other people doing the same thing.

Someday, you know, you will be some older dude, maybe living in the States and maybe wherever you washed up, a beach in Thailand or something, and you will appreciate all the things you did and saw.

Haha I really try hard not to be that old guy name dropping all these exotic locations. Just earlier today I was talking to someone about bonfires and how nice they are and found myself saying "Last November when I was staying with hunter gatherers in Tanzania they had 'campfires' every night and it was really lovely" and then I cringed at how pompous "last november when I was staying with hunter gatherers" sounded. d:

Yeah, totally, don't be that guy. I mean, everyone likes to talk about himself, me especially (hence journal) but it's an extra special skill not to make other people feel envious.
