Oh my god, how much does that suck. :( I don't suppose you were anywhere for long enough to even contact your bank or pick up a wire transfer, either. It's a good reminder, though... I used to keep an emergency credit card secreted about my person (okay, usually in my bra...) when traveling and don't now because I always think I'm too worldly to be that guy. Which is stupid and I KNOW it's stupid. Anyone can be that guy. So at least your misfortune has served a small good?

Also, it's funny that I read this just after I finished reading post reports on Addis. What do you think... would you move there for two years with three intrepid small children and maybe a cat?

It was weird, I remember even just a few days before it happened I was having lunch with a friend in Nairobi and somehow had occasion to mention that I've never been pickpocketed, and as I said it I just felt like I was offending the gods with my hubris...

Your videos would be a great way for you to quickly document your journey. However, I can get away with reading LJ at work a lot more than I can watch videos. I enjoy your writing, so hopefully your text entries won't go away completely.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't want to go to all video -- I myself being often in places with poor bandwidth or really expensive data often can't watch videos people are posting, to say nothing of yeah at work or just the bother of I have to stop and turn my music off before playing a video. So I don't like videos much BUT some people are all about them and it might be an interesting experiment.
