Overland to Nairobi!

We've taken another little vacation from the narrative story line so let me recap. The recent picture posts have been from a roadtrip across Tanzania and back. On return from there I went to Moshi on the slopes of Kiliminjaro for a week, where the last narrative entries took place.

I would have probably been terrified to go through something like that but that's just me, I'm not very "worldly". I have been to Australia and England and lived in Japan for two years but it was like home (except Japan with how their culture is). I enjoyed this entry, its nice to see how things are in other areas. I like the pictures too, especially the first two!

I think I really eased up over the course of this trip, Previous to it I tihnk I'd have been a bit leary about riding local transportation around Africa. All my previous trips all in-country travel had been arranged for me, so this landing in places and figuring it out from there was a brand new adventure!

One of my nephews was in Kenya some years ago to build a school and well I think, but it was in the middle of some fighting. He and his girlfriend managed to get across a border for a few days until things settled, then they went back to do the work. Looking at your photographs and reading your story reminded me of that time.

Yeah, there's some interesting geography that seems specific to Africa -- lots of red coloured dirt and mountains or giant (mountain sized) rocks that stick out suddenly out of flat plains.

My mother was very worried about me.

I bet she was :( I doubt that she could sleep at night

You have to have a huge amount of respect for the 'Doctors Without Borders' people.

I love your photos and story

Thanks! (:

Yeah the MSF people are really way out on the danger zone! Out there just to help people. Huge amount of respect indeed!

In the last year or so I read an excellent book about "Doctors Without Boards" called A Band-Aid for a Broken Leg by Damien Brown. Brown writes about his time working in Africa for the organisation.

It's both a harrowing and a very uplifting book. If you ever get the chance read it, if you haven't already done so.
