Does just having a photo in a post count as "other multimedia"? (If not, there should be a category for posts with photos)

I think my post this week should deserve its own category, but I'll wait until I post it before I say what the category is. ;)

Is it... a picture that just consists of a photo??

If there is only one photo, accompanying an otherwise narrative or essay entry, I don't think that bounces it into "other multimedia." Frankly I think all essays / narratives really could benefit from an addition of some multimedia. But certainly an entry that consists entirely (/primarily) of a photo essay would count as "other multimedia," and if they were ballsy enough just to post a single picture, well damn that would be ballsy. :D

haha, okay then!

I wonder if markmade's first entry would count, then. That one probably relied most heavily on pictures than some of his others.

Does a vlog have to be filmed especially for Idol, or might I just post something I've filmed in the past and write about it? (I never had plans to do this, but you never know what might come up).

Vlogs emo_snal February 13 2010, 23:54:08 UTC
Hmm yeah I suppose that would count if the focus was the vlog.

I'm thinking if this is still going on when I'm back on the boat of doing a vlog from way up on the end of the highest yardarm on the boat, I think people would get a kick out of the view from up there (:

Oh, also, if we have multiple entries that fit into one of the categories, does it matter which one we choose to link? (I just went through and found all my Idol posts to link them in the same post so I can work out which ones I can "enter")

I'd imagine not. Just, you know, I suppose make a vague effort to link the one that BEST fits the category. (:

I'm kind of thinking maybe it would be fun when all is said and done if I were to post a list of all the entries submitted from the decathlon sorted by category, so if someone is really into essays or verse or sci fi, or what have you, it'll (probably be the only) place they can find a cross section of contestants entries organized in such a manner.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking.

You know, I think that could be a very useful resource. Assuming enough people submit things!

I don't think I'm likely to write anything creepy or sci fi. Unless my Cu Chi tunnel experience in Vietnam can be considered creepy?

OK, another category, now I've posted my entry for this week. Screenplays (and plays, since I notice poppetawoppet gave that a go for the tie-breaker)! Are there any other specific writing formats (you know, besides the general prose and poetry type options) that people might consider doing? You could lump them together as "alternative written formats" maybe.

Screenplays / Plays emo_snal February 14 2010, 02:10:40 UTC
Hmmm yeah I'd probably give a category point for screenplays / plays.

Hmm. I may have hit 10 already through no fault of my own.

Will check after my shows tonight.

Hmm hopefully not too many people are going to be able to just look at this and say "I got em all already!" ..I was hoping it would actually involve people having to do something about. (:

So a humorous narrative knocks down 4 and 5, I get that.

What about verse? Would an entry merely have to include verse (some minimum amount, say 12 lines, or recognized form, say a sonnet), or be entirely in verse? If the latter, I think it should rate a "2" or maybe even a "3".

Cheers...

Hmmm I would say the entry would need to be significantly in verse, or at least focus entirely on an original set of verse. I'm trying to hash a line here between not making these too easy to check off but not extremely stringent either. Mainly, I don't want people to be able to check it off just because they put a stanza of a poem at the bottom of an entry that wasn't otherwise focusing on verse, but if clearly they are riding on the quality of their versification...
