The word "emo" sucks, man. It's changed so much in the last 15 years that it doesn't mean what it used to mean.

So I refuse to use it, except to refer to Sunny Day Real Estate:

As per comments on the video, these guys (more or less) originated Emo, which was a counterpoint to Grunge, both being Seattle sounds.

They are similar, (I've got all the early SDRE if you ever want to listen to it; or listen to their clip, Seven) but the difference is how you respond to the music. You mosh to grunge, you stare at your shoes and sway back and forth for emo.

Dashboard Confessional is another good Emo band.

*stares at shoes* Gee you know a lot of stuff, H.

PS. A Sun Came - love it. Quite similar to Illinoise, perhaps not quite as tight (but I like that, rawness) and Sufjan's voice has the same lilting, lulling qualities we all know and love.

I only know lots of stuff about the things I'm interested in. If you had a post on crocheting or sewing or string quartets, I'd keep my mouth shut!

:)

I'm glad Sufjan worked out... he always seems to.
