I was thinking about Harry Potter after a long, long time earlier today - I loved the books, but barely stepped into fandom. I had very few qualms about the series or how it ended, and the only thing that really bothered me was something JK Rowling said (I think) in one of the interviews after Book 7 was released - that George and Angelina would ( Read more... )

I haven't read much FF outside SPn but might give this a whirl.
This is one of the problems I have with the Harry Potter books. I enjoyed them (apart from the last 3 or was it 4 being far too long winded) but "Hell, I can barely remember the seventh book now, but I still recall lines from this fic vividly." Yup. Oh, I LOVED the HP books - I like to think I "grew up" with Harry, given I read the first book when I was 11 and the final one when I was 17. I just haven't found the inclination since to pick up the books and read them again; they've already been consigned to the mists of nostalgia (which actually saddens me. :( )

I think part of the reason I can look back upon them so fondly is because I shut myself away from all the hysteria. I'd discuss them with my schoolmates, read the occasional fanfic, but kept my distance otherwise. :p

Ooops. I grew up with Lord of the Rings - I first read it when I was 11....but then I re-read it more times than I can count.

I have read all but the last HP at least twice, but still. Good but not that good. :D
