Tevee Report: Fringe and Babylon 5

Feb 06, 2010 18:43

You know, if I remembered to post when I actually have thoughts, this wouldn't be so damn long.  It's hard enough just to keep this to Fringe and B5.

1. I'm a little sad I don't have anything to say about BSG these days. Which is my own fault.

Leverage has been picked up for a third season, last I'd heard. And Tara will be going away soon enough. (shooow, why can't you let me have Sophie, Tara, Parker and Maggie all at once? siiigh)

Why the universe doesn't align to make this happen, I have no idea.

\o/!!

I don't think that Maggie would work well as a regular but I do like it when she shows up and yes, I would totally love to see Tara and Sophie in the show at the same time. I mean, if I had to choose, I'd choose Sophie, but WHY THE CHOICE, SHOW? WHY? Dumb show, making their replacement cast member so much fun... :(

Peter/Astrid is potentially so adorable and functional, that yes. *wants*

I think you (and beccatoria) are right about Olivia and fear, I'm mostly annoyed with the choice, though it makes a bit more sense to me now than it did. And she doesn't ever let in stop her and now I'm thinking of the episode where she takes out all of her kidnappers, escapes with vital evidence and only THEN allows a short freakout to keep sanity. Which is where I fell for her and a much happier thing to think about. <3

Lennier! I left him off but it was entirely accidental because I do have love for Lennier and generally think all of the Ambassador/Aid relationships fit really well with the characters. G'Kar and Na'Toth are just such a perfectly psychotic team especially.

I miss Sophie too, though I don't mind Tara. I liked getting a glimpse at Parker freaking out a bit this week too. They don't give us quite enough of the personal backstories too often.

Fringe was way freaky this week, but I could care so much more for this show if I didn't resent the fact that it uses Joshua Jackson in all the wrong ways. He's too often forced to be naggy and eye-rolling about his dad. I want to see HIM in a Leverage or White Collar dammit. Where he gets to be charming and romantic with someone who is charming and charismatic herself and whom he has actual chemistry with. Sigh. (I don't like Peter/Olivia much and agree that they trade on him "saving" her too much to make it romantic. I futilely ship Peter/Astrid too! But I think Astrid's personal life is coming up in the spring season and it's not going in that direction...)

I actually think they're doing a really good job of making Sophie not feel forgotten and knowing she's planned to return helps, I'll admit. Which is what lets me unreservedly enjoy having Tara around.

*draws on reserves of Josh Jackson love in support of your pretty, glowy icon* :)

I know I have far more Olivia/Anna Torv love than you and that powers my enjoyment of the show. I'm also kind of at a low grade level of constant irritation about the fandom's massive adoration of Peter, but I get that when you love the actor and the potential for the character it's hard when he doesn't get anything to do. And there's really been nothing, so I'm annoyed that the repetitive boring of his storyline is taking away from what I want. So, in sum, I think we can meet at supporting the improvement of Josh Jackson's character, absolutely ( ... )

Oh, season one B5. Siiiigh. I'm going to tell you now to use the fast-forward button on 'Believers' and only watch the Susan bits, because the rest is utter crap.

So noted. (thank you) ETA: Wow, you weren't kidding.

And I'm not hating season 1 at all, but it takes awhile, I tell you what. Thank goodness for character of utter awesome to combat the crap. ;)

Dude, I would not kid about a thing like that. I barely managed half of the episode the first time through, and there was a lot of "dude, do we have to watch this?" directed at my roommate, who didn't appreciate it.
