My children's book rec this month is Polly Horvath's "Everything On A Waffle", a charming tale about 11-year-old Primrose Squarp, whose parents may have been lost at sea, whose Uncle Jack may be slightly lax in child oversight, and whose favorite restaurant, The Girl on the Red Swing, serves everything on a waffle. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lasagna comes on a waffle. Steak is on a waffle. Even waffles are served on waffles.

While there is a mildly scary fire plus some minor missing parts of digits now and then, rest assured that there are no nightmare-inducing moments and all is handled in a delightful manner throughout. Highly recommended.

I can vouch for Ms. Horvath; my daughter reads her and likes her a lot. (Canning Season, I think is one she read recently, and she read the waffle one in fifth grade, she says. Kids these days. They're so precocious.) MoT
