I also downloaded a course to learn Swedish, where they teach phrases, not single words and actually read them aloud, and stuff, but I have the feeling I'll never really be able to learn it until I get there... Though I do have the Swedish series of Wallander on dvd with subtitles, I should watch those 100 times till I know everything by heart. Tough then I'll be able to talk about murders and not anything else probably xD
In my experience it's always easier to learn a language while you're in the country where it's spoken because you'll be surrounded by it all the time. For that to work you probably need to have some basic knowledge of the language so the course sounds like a good start as well as watching Wallander.
