This Confession post is taking too freaking long to write! It will be up later for those who care to read it. For now, I'm putting the fic up without it to keep things moving.

Please don't reply to this comment so I can come back and edit it later.

Very special thanks to beta melissima and to ladygray99 for their assistance with this fic.

Thank you,

Emma DeMarais

Nicely filled out. I still like the story, still hot at the right moments and harsh at the right moments. Charlie is still Charlie and I can see how are Ian would be this Ian if raised in that time and place. A part of me wants a hundred more pages going into every little detail of the romance and what happens before or after but as a writer I know that's a big ask.

Thanks!

I tried to make him a bit more Ian based on your feedback. It's hard because this Ian really was raised in a whole different environment so many of the characteristics we associate with Ian (like the fact that he shares Don's penchant for bucking the rules to get the job done) couldn't be there.

I actually wish I had more details on the romance myself. The Charlie/Ian intimate interaction is where I find myself drifting back, so I kind of am bummed that I didn't spend more time on them. The fic was way long as it was, so it was even hard to put the little moments in after the mob attack and in the park, but I think the fic is better for them.

I have ideas for sequels (or rather history shows Poland being invaded in 1939) and at least one prequel. I think I need a break before I try to dive back in though. 15K and 17K stories in that short a period of time leaves me rather drained.

a hundred more pages

GAH! /runs away scared/

NOOOOOOOO! This is not Viceworld! NOOOOOOOO!

I can still picture Charlie and Ian sitting at Rick's Cafe Americana trying to get exit visas for the plane to Lisbon.

Good chapter.

But I feel that Ian walking away from his job as spy seemed a little too easy...Would they really let someone who knew so much about how they (the German Abwehr) worked go?

Is this the end?

Well, he almost died, which is a pretty good case for quitting. Also, it's not wartime so he's not conscripted or anything. Finally, I cut ahead over that time because it wasn't easy, but it still got done.

Is this the end?

Of this fic yes, but the muse has threatened both sequels *and* a prequel (showing how Charlie got caught up in the libertine life because hello writing that club is *nice*) so it's quite possible the universe will make an encore appearance at some point. For now I'm exhausted from writing a 15K and a 17K fic back to back and need a break. Ahh, drabbles! How I missed your lovely brevity...
