"Eighty-five degrees! We have to get his body temperature up! Anyone know how long he was in the water?"
An EMT's voice came up from behind the crowd of ER doctors and nurses transferring the man brought in via ambulance to a bed. "At least five minutes, I'd guess. We brought in the girl he saved, but she was only in for two minutes. He got swept further down the river before they could fish him out."
"Surprised the waters weren't frozen solid considering how cold it is out," the doctor grumbled. "Where's the warming blanket? Where's the warm IV fluids I ordered?" he called out.
"Here!" A nurse rushed up and hung an IV.
"Got it!" Another nurse ran in with an electric blanket she laid over the unconscious man on the trauma room bed.
"He saved a little girl from the icy floodwaters?" the first nurse asked as she finished setting up the IV.
"Yeah," the EMT replied. "He's a big damn hero."

Don flipped past the front page of the newspaper with its headline of 'FBI Agent Risks Life Saving Child' and turned to the sports section. He wrinkled his nose at the antiseptic smell, ever present in hospitals, and glanced at the clock for the third time that hour.
"Can't wait to get out of here?" came a familiar raspy voice.
"Coop! You bastard!" The two men embraced carefully, but with great affection.
"Good to see you, Eppes. Though I wish it was under better circumstances."
"So," Don prodded him. "After all these years you still have me listed as your in case of emergency contact?"
Billy looked up at him, pale as the sheets of his hospital bed. "What can I say? Of everyone I know, you're the only one I was sure would come..."
