First Mozart Requiem performance of the run was tonight. This was the performance dedicated to Mary Ann, and we'd done both the Lacrymosa from the Requiem and Ave Verum Corpus (which we now have a tradition of tagging onto the end of the Requiem) at her memorial service. WOW.

I am so jealous that you get to perorm Mozart's Requium ... and happy for you. God what bliss. That is one of my favorite works of music of all time.

Performances are something else, aren't they? When everything comes together and its just perfect...or the hsit hits the fan...

Saint Saen's organ sympony and Brahms' Requium are my two favorite performance memories...(first violin)

We do Mozart's Requiem something like 2 years out of three. Our every-year staples are Beethoven's 9th (for New Year's) and Handel's Messiah (right before Christmas). Next season we've got a month and a half where we have the week of Handel performances, 5 days off for Christmas, a week of Beethoven performances, a week off, a week of Mozart's Requiem (with Itzhak Perlman directing, which should be a real learning experience) and then the following week Mozart's C minor mass. Whoof.

Perlman is amazing, an incredible teacher. You learn so much just watching him work. I treasure the memory of the master class I got to *watch* him teach when I was in conservatory (I was first-year and didn't make it through the audition process). WOW. The Requiem with Perlman no less...Wow wow wow.

Yeah. Though with the scheduling... that's the only thing that's keeping a lot of us IN that concert set next year. December through January is just going to be a real slog. I hope we have the energy to do him justice.

Heh. That's very similar to my first fainting experience. Kindergarten graduation, not quite 6 years old...
