The marmot looks a little like our ground hogs/woodchucks.
The waterlilies aren't my favorite Monets, either, but the colors are beautiful, aren't they? Remind me again--what is that painting that you use in your icon?

Good spotting re mamots/groundhogs!
The picture is Renoir's La Liseuse (the reader in case you too don't speak French). I love how happy and absorbed the woman looks.

And hey I did that train geneva to venice once ( the train went on to belgrade theoretically, also an alluring prospect, it´s some carriages which get towed to santa lucia), I got to venice station at 7 am all tired and bleary, you walk out that door and are the grande canale at dawn, everything oh so quiet. it was amazing!

It's funny you say chocolate box pretty, I thought the same and also that some scenes looked like jigsaw puzzle pictures :)
The train to Venice is still definitely on my list, it was only 25 pounds when I looked so isn't too expensive and sounds lovely! Belrade too, hmmm, maybe a whole trip is planned out right there :)

Ah, je suis très heureuse que tu aimais Paris! I can't wait to go there. And I think you might have convinced me to do Switzerland for my four-day break. It will be freezing, but HOMG PRETTY.
Also I am v. excited to know I am not the only person who takes pictures of cows.

We drove, but it was obvious that Switzerland is really easy to get around by train, you can get up and down all mountains etc by public transport too.
I also have a large collection of photos of sheep :)
