Lunch with the son [Bones and Emma, NVC Day 12, around Lunch?]

Apr 20, 2010 00:32

The adventure with Jo and McCoy had been an interesting experience. Definitely one for the books. Three generations from different dimensions. She laughed and shook her head at the idea. All of it seemed so surreal to her. Hell, everyone was surreal to her ever since she stepped onto Ephram's shuttle. After a fresh shower and a change of clothing, ( Read more... )

Bones was asleep when he heard his communicator go off, indicating a text message. He looked up, bleary-eyed as he took in his surroundings. He'd passed out fallen asleep on the sofa of their apartment, an empty bottle next to him.

He read the message and winced. Fuck, he'd forgotten about lunch. How was he going to get through this without saying anything? He'd managed to get by without actually talking to anyone other than Joanna and Sam, and neither of those had been particularly happy conversations.

Message to Momma:

Anything you want, Momma. What time you want me to get you or you want to meet somewhere?

Message to Lenny:
There's a little restaurant about a few blocks from where we're staying. I've attached the directions. See you there?

Love,
Momma

P.S. L? Honey, I gave you a whole name. Not a letter.

Bones showered and changed, shaved his face for the first time in a week. The process made him feel a little better, as if he was shedding some old skin. Jim usually liked it when he got a little scruffy when they were on shore leave, but... this wasn't exactly shore leave.

And Jim still wasn't here.

Putting on some semi-casual clothes, he headed out and made it to the restaurant early, giving himself some time to check his messages. He replied back to a few people, made excuses and put off appointments for a couple more days. Not ready to face anyone that he didn't have to, not yet.

Em hummed as she strolled up to the restaurant. Joanna's message had made her worried. What the hell was going on with everyone? Dead or not, she needed to step back into her shoes as a matriarch. She rounded the corner to see him responding to a few messages and frowned. He looked even older than when she first saw him again.

"Heya, stranger. How about some lunch?" she called out with a smile.

"Hello," Bones said, standing as she approached. He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "How are you?" he asked, indicating to the waiter that they needed two menus.

She smiled. "Nice to know all my yelling at you about minding your manners left some sort of lasting effect." she teased as she sat down. "And I'm doing all right. Trying to catch up on my matronly duties." Em glanced over at him over her menu. "And yourself, son of mine?"
