I do not understand the rioting for free birth control.  I do back the movement and think it would be beneficial, but I also think there is a bizarre sense of entitlement for a product that is not necessary to live.  People act like they are being oppressed by having to pay for their own birth control when those with cancer can't afford treatment ( Read more... )

My mother has MS and if she wasn't involved in a clinical trial for medication she would be paying over $2000 a month for it- that doesn't even include the muscle relaxants, pain medication, etc.

I think free birth control is a great idea, however, Planned Parenthood already provides this option. (Or close to, at least.) I wouldn't consider it a life necessity. The other thing to consider here is that birth control doesn't protect against diseases, and, just because everyone will have free access to birth control does not mean they will have the proper education to go with making the decision to be sexually active.
