I like this look into Ianto and subsequently the reflection of Jack. It's a nice, thoughtful piece of writing, well done!

“Because,” he says, “it’s not about you believing in anything or anyone. It is about you knowing that someone believes in you.”

This line, I think, sums up everything I ever wanted Jack to say to Ianto.

I really liked this, although I think I'll have to read it again before I can really digest it.

I often bristle at RTD's militant atheism. I can admit that I have a believer's bias, but I don't see how these guys can go through what they do if they don't believe in someone, and feel confident that someone believes in them.

You could say they believe in humanity, and the worthy cause of saving it, but I think CoE, for example, casts doubt on this as the accepted Torchwood world view. Neither the saviors nor the saved seemed very deserving in that universe.

Very nice thinky piece upon which I shall enjoy thinking for quite a while. Thanks.

I totally agree with you. I think it's made pretty clear in the series that there's no God, no afterlife etc, and it bothers me, as you said, because how can they go on if they have nothing to believe in. They only have each other.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting, and I'm glad it rose some thoughts!
