I had to run out into the hall because after a quick look around my room once the shaking started I realized that there was nothing in my room to hide under to prevent chunks of ceiling falling on me. OK, makes a vague amount of sense.

The whole thing took about thirty seconds, I thought. I think you said something about the quake and an aftershock, but if so, they came so close together for me that I thought it was a single earthquake.
