This weekend we started building a new fence around the backyard. This is interesting only to me. I have an inappropriate level of lust for both fencing and carpeting. Replacing the previous fence which was short, gapped, crooked, poorly constructed and hideous with a new fence which is tall, tight, straight, obsessively constructed and lovely ( Read more... )

we have figs but they're green figs and what the fuck do you do with figs in the first place, to say nothing of green ones, to say nothing of 800,000 of them.

i remember one of the first things you said upon your arrival in dallas was how tall all of the fences are here. i still often think about that when i look at the fences.

when i was a youngster, i was walking down the side yard with my grandmother and biting into a peach. when i got down to the pit, i discovered it was split and THERE WAS A REAL LIVE FULL GROWN ROACH DOWN IN THERE. i've been afraid of pits ever since. it was years before i'd eat a peach without cutting it to pieces first.

I share your fence love. Our fence was the best investment we ever made to our property. No more starving stray dogs putting their noses up to our windows in the winter, no more neighborhood children hanging out on our patio like they own the place, privacy galore. Love it. I'm very happy for you and your showy new fence.

Our Ace Hardware is a half mile down the road, and they never have what we need, but they do have a cat they rescued from the street outside who all these grown men just adore, and let her sleep on the counter, so I keep going back. Home Depot and Lowes don't have any cats on their counters.

I love my local Ace Hardware. If you need information or specialized items Ace is the only place to go. I've been to Lowe's and Home Depot and dealt with more idiots than you can imagine. The people at Ace are actually intelligent and know what they're talking about. For example, I needed to get a key duplicated for my 1994 GMC Jimmy. Neither Lowe's nor Home Depot had the correct GM key blank for my 94 Jimmy. Ace had it and made the key for me right away. Similarly, I once had an employee chase me around Lowe's in Puyallup because he kept trying to tell me that my measurements were incorrect and I didn't know what I was talking about. Eventually I managed to lose him and find what I needed without having to interact with any more of their moronic employees. I would not piss on Lowe's or Home Depot if they were burning in the desert.
