He'd slept in barns before. Sometimes, in the summer, especially just after a storm, the barn was cooler than his room in the house, so Bull would bring a pillow and a thin blanket outside and watch the stars through a hole in the roof until he fell asleep.
The Netherlands are a far cry from Arkansas, though, especially with a dead Kraut partially covered in hay. Bull, crouched low and silent in the darkness, rifle close with bayonet still attached, kept waiting for them to notice their missing comrade, to return to Nuenen and, if he were lucky, kill him. Bull would rather be killed than taken prisoner.
Writing Bull after watching the 2nd episode of Southland is HARD! (Because I love Cooper more than should be possible after only 2 episodes.) *squishes* Glad you liked it!

He can't sleep, can't relax, so he waits.
