Liebgott lets out a frustrated puff of smoke, knocking the ash off the end before taking another drag. He's bored. And Webster's ignoring him, sitting against a tree, writing in that damn diary.
"You could go for a walk," Web suggests, distracted. "War's over, Joe. There's more to life than fighting and fucking."
He tenses. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Things happen in war that wouldn't otherwise. Just think of it as a free pass."
"For a Harvard man," Joe says, stamping out the cigarette, "you sure are an idiot." He rips the diary out of Webster's hands and, as the other opens his mouth in protest, silences him with a kiss.
