Sketch Fest for June - Now Open!

Jun 18, 2010 11:55

ETA: We're closed now!! Thank you, everyone, for playing along!

The Sketch Fest is now open!

Our participating artists are listed here! (It's not too late to sign up, if you still want to!)

Please visit their sites, enjoy their amazing work, and support their efforts today.

Prompters:

Please leave us ideas and inspiration to keep us sketching through the day!

Prompts can be one or two words, character descriptions, photos, weird science facts... whatever. Your prompts will be available for all artists to choose from, and most of us will be working in the fantasy and science fiction genre. You may post one prompt or several. You do not have to be logged in or registered with livejournal, but leaving a name or email so artists who work on your prompts can contact you is a good idea.

If you want to receive emailed comments for either your own prompts, or the entire thread (lots and LOTS of comments), click on the "Track This" link, or on the push-pin icon. (You do have to be logged in to livejournal!)

Artists:

Have fun!

When claiming a prompt, reply directly to the person who left the prompt, and please call it out in the subject of the comment. CLAIM: Mushroom Imp, CLAIM: side-saddle snail, etc. (This way, it's easy to see at a glance what's a claim, and what's just a random side comment, even when there are a 100 comments to sift through.)

More than one person may claim a prompt - it's fun to see different interpretations of the same idea! And you may combine prompts, if they mesh together well.

If you want to receive emailed comments for the entire thread (lots and LOTS of comments), click on the "Track This" link, or on the push-pin icon. (You do have to be logged in to livejournal!)

Artists have 1 hour to complete a sketch for the prompts they claim. You aren't required to post it within an hour - maybe you get a phone call, or want to scan all of your finished sketches at once, or who knows. You are simply on the honor system not to spend more than one hour on the sketch before posting it. You are also invited to finish the pieces later, if you like what you start! Any medium is welcome. You don't have to spend the whole hour on a sketch - if you get to a good stopping point after 20 minutes, that's fine, too!

Posting Finished Sketches

There is an uploading form located here, which lets you upload up to 5 .jpg files at a time to my server. It resizes the jpg to a maximum of 700 pixels on the long side and also creates a thumbnail and generates the hotlinking code for you to copy and paste.

When you post the finished sketch, reply directly to the person who left the prompt - try to avoid replying to your own claim, as the person may not get an email alert if you do that. In the subject of the comment, use the following format: SKETCH: Star Dancer, SKETCH: young dragon, etc. Then copy-paste the hotlinking code generated above, and let the prompter know if it's for sale, or anything else you want to share about your process.

I've built you more goodies, too!

The upload form now saves the information everyone uploads, and provides an awesome wall of finished work! How sweet is that? (Er, it won't look like anything until we get started, of course...)

A huge thank you to our webpage sponsors: selinafenech, draken_art, Jeffrey, celticwren and Lindsey Hodder!

If you'd like to donate towards a spiffy webpage for future Sketch Fests, your support is very welcome (funds = features!): If you are EMG artist or EMG-Zine contributor, you may also donate your credits towards the site, including spending-only credits.

Remember, no more than one hour on any one piece! You can spend less time, if you want. Our point here is to stretch our creative muscles and sketch like the wind - you can always go back another day and finish pieces.

Ready? Set? Sketch!
