"(Just Like) Starting Over" was not so much classic Lennon as, ironically, his last hit. It had just been released when he was killed in December of 1980. (He had been, more or less, in retirement since the birth of Sean Lennon, his youngest son.)
It's no wonder it was the most popular song on your birthday. (When I was in high school they said that if you made a wish just before you heard the "ding ding ding ding" opening of the song, it would come true! Seriously. But then, it was high school...)
