Comics Rant + Issues

Jan 17, 2007 19:05

It's been about five months since the last time I let out a rant on the current direction of comic books, and now I have the chance to update my stance.   I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it's just the fan in me maturing and wanting more than just the hero defeating the villain, that I want to see progress in the character's life, be it ( Read more... )

Well, I don't keep up with the DCs as much as I should (Except for Superman ._.) the Marvel I do keep up with, but I avoid the Ultimates mostly because I've heard how Bad it is anyways. D: I have been reading the Civil War, and as long as they don't go the way of House of M, it should be ok. I think the problem is that they're trying to boost sales, and the comic industry is still slowly losing sales, so they have to come up with more and more outrageous story lines to make the sales. D:

Oh, by the way, if you were looking into Star Wars: Legacy (which is my current favourite from DH), I've scanned the first 5 issues, and I have the 7th on file, and the 6th is waiting to be scanned...so if you want some, I've got it. :)

I just realized I sort of glazed over Superman in my rant. I can't say I'm upset at that section of DC though. The regular title's futuristic apocalypse arc isn't doing it for me, but I'm very interested in Action Comics right now with Richard Donner helping out.

The Ultimates got too political and gritty for me to have any fun with it. I lost interest pretty quickly. Not to mention it got delayed to hell (at least the latest incarnation did).

Graphic novels and trades are probably going to be the best chance for the industry to make way. If they can grow in bookstores that will be something.

See now this is an opportunity to read Legacy which I haven't had a chance to do. I'd love to read them! Thank you for offering! *hugs* :D

lol, yeah, I'm kinda weirded out by the whole future apocalypse thing...so I'm going through and downloading really old issues of Supes and reading them. Mostly '90s stuff, though. :D

Now see, I like political, but Ultimates just...eh. D:

On trades, oh yeah. Unfortunately, the manga industry in America has almost completely eradicated the comics industry. What was once 2 or 3 shelves of graphic novels at the bookstores are now one shelf of that and 4 shelves of manga, it makes me sad. ._. I mean, Manga is pretty fun, but is it that bad when American classics aren't even being bought? I mean, Superman and Batman won't last forever without sales. ._.

:D I'll make sure to scan that issue and make a nice little pack for you then! :D Its really great, and its getting so exciting now! :3

The future thing weirds me out because of what they do with Luthor ... He always seems to be a character that is extremely evil but at any moment can be justified to be a hero in some way ... like I know that there are stories where Luthor is who he is because he wants to be the guardian of Metropolis and not big blue.

Yeah the manga industry is all everywhere, but I have to believe that eventually it'll calm down, a lot of it looks the same (to me at least). I think that's why the comic companies started delving into movies, and they've been fairly successful there.

That would be awesome. Just let me know whenever you do it. :D I'm really cheap when it comes to my comic addiction so I only let myself try one of the new SW comics, and Knights of the Old Republic won out (probably because it came out first I think).

...that just sounds too complicated to even keep up with honestly. D:

And to someone said about manga taking up four shelves? I'm a little saddened by that too. They're not that good. I know I pretty much don't read them except 2 scanned mangas (Team Medical Dragon and Zetman).

Put it short, I'm leaning back towards American comics. Only reason is Street Fighter. ^^;

Am I wrong to think that the appeal of manga is overrated? That mostly the fans that are into it, buy so much of it, that their actual worth is less than it seems to be. There just seems to be so much of it, that it's hard to find uniqueness out there.

You and your Street Fighter. @_@ (I do need to get the trades of it though. lol.)

Believe me, you're not.

There's manga about everything possible... to the questionable to the OMG NO D: type. About half of them are some type of yaoi, angst, and a harem. And that's probably a manga of said things. D:

There's even a manga about Jesus. No lie.

But the thing is, there's barely any quality at all. =[

I saw a picture of Pikachu doing something naughty to Jesus ... so I think I'll leave it at that. ._.
