Some Assembly Required

Apr 19, 2014 19:24

The four hour delivery window stretched into a day and a half, but IKEA's trucking contractor did finally show up this evening, and a couple of cheery fellows brought 445 kg of flatpack furniture and hardware right into the bedroom for me.

Allen wrenches at the ready! )

I hope this delay doesn't mean you're without the help of your trusty assistant! All the best with the assembly. I don't know hoe long it is since you've done Ikea assembly? I think the most important thing is to read the instructions right through before you start, identifying the parts and the nuts-and-bolts as you read. That way you spot the things which are asymmetric, if that' the right word i.e. they will only go together one way up and in a specific order.

Have fun transforming your room, and don't scratch your lovely new floor!

My assistant, AKA my sister, was flexible, so the delay was more of a rest for my hands than a hassle (which is not to say I didn't get kind of testy with the trucking firm when they called to postpone the second time--because I did).

I've done a ton of IKEA assembly, enough to know not to be cocky about the cryptic little instructional drawings. Everything is there, but you really have to study the pictures closely. That particleboard is pretty unforgiving of mistakes!

There's enough cardboard here to cover my new floor, possibly in more than one layer. I'm going to do that before we start. As soon as I finish my coffee.
