Drywall

Mar 31, 2014 18:44

The drywall contractors dropped off 20 sheets of Sheetrock the other day, and it's been lying on my sad, sad bedroom floor, conveniently wrong side up, so last night I magicked some of it up.

Heh. I dunno about that. Drywall is magic, as far as I'm concerned.

Izzat you, Roxy?

Yes! It's me, all secret and stuff!

My roxymissrose LJ won't let me log on because of "security reasons". Apparently I tried to log on one time too many--as in twice. *fumes*

'course, right now, I'm just being too lazy to bother. :D

So, I must ask: Are you a member of a famous Halloween family, or do you pose a question to the Duke of Jazz?

Excellent! It reminds me of the writing people sometimes find when they strip layers of wallpaper, a connection to someone who lived there before them.

Are you going to be doing that magic mixture of colours which melds into a lovely variegated surface? Sorry, I can't remember what the technique is called.

The color-meshing technique is something I glommed onto because it's suited to faulty wall surfaces--gives a kind of "ancient" look that accords pretty well with cracks and buckling. With brand-new, smooth, perfect, not-a-single-nail-hole walls, I'm really tempted to go with the plainest possible satin finish, something I've never been able to do before.

I'm still deciding.

The capitalisation in your handwritten version of the poem is interesting... Needed emphasis?

Do you know where that bit ended up? (And which way up, for that matter?)

Sounds like that dude knew what's what. Magic is everywhere, I keep telling you :D

There are more quietly magical dudes out there than one might expect, and they're usually the practical, hands-on sort rather than the amuletted showy sort. More magical dames, too. I think in general that more faith and magic goes into things than society would be entirely comfortable with if it were openly admitted.

Agreed. The amuletted, showy sort I wouldn't trust with my magic--let alone with my drywall. Heh. I had many interactions with that type back in the 80s. Heck, I was that type back in the 80s. Well, a little bit.

I think perhaps craft is craft, and people who manifest things in the physical world just fundamentally understand forms of magic.

Thanks. It's funny--I can no longer really write with a regular pen. Lack of practice and some hand arthritis. So was a nice surprise to find that with a great big felt-tip marker I'm still quite legible.

Hm. It must have to do with whole-arm versus finer hand movements.
