What a fantastic idea that Rebuilding Center is! We have privately-owned architectural salvage companies which buy and sell parts of beautiful old buildings (such as fireplaces) and which are a godsend if one is restoring a house which has been "modernised", but nothing which deals with normal parts from normal hoses, let alone helps with deconstruction.

Are these 2x2 pieces for hanging your shades?

There's at least one other business here locally that deals in the high-end salvage--your copper fireplace hoods and wrought-iron railings and stuff--and I imagine that the Rebuilding Center skims those kinds of donations off and brokers them out. What's left is a huge inventory of cool old junk that seems to wind up in creative garden sheds and treehouses, more than in period restorations. But it's a terrific resource for cheap bits of lumber. And every now and then a person might score some wood flooring or good quality molding.

The 2x2s are destined to be mounting headers for the shades, yes. This project is crawling along slowly, but I think after yesterday I've accumulated most of the bits and parts I need.

So, are you mounting the 2x2s above the window frames? I assume you must be, because otherwise the blinds would be too far away from the windows.

The shades are inside-mount, so the 2x2 goes up inside the frame at the top, and there will be a valance to hide the works. Pictures will ensue...if I ever get this project done!

Your Rebuilding Center sounds AWESOME, not only as the place to go to when you need something but also when you want to get rid of something and you really don't want to just throw it away. I wish we have one over here.
