A dozen days

Gmail decided that your comment was spam. Sorry about that! Just found it.

In the dozen days since this post and your comment, I've come to accept that my work--maybe even my personality--was valued around that place. I don't know if I'll ever stitch up the rents in the fabric of my self-concept, but leaving work certainly didn't hurt.

I think you did it right by playing along - as you say, it's more about them, really.

Many apologies--I try never to leave comments unanswered. This one, for some reason, struck Gmail as spam, and I only just found it.

In the dozen days since this post and your comment, I came to realize how very true it is that these things are for those left behind. I think I ended up striking a pretty good balance between my own wish to sidle out with no fanfare and their wish to have a party. I had some nice one-on-one interactions with some nice coworkers, and some very nice feelings were expressed. It was A-OK.

Thank you--and yes, I do think I managed a pretty steady-as-she-goes exit from my career. I'm not displeased.

The cake was...you know, government-issue grocery-store sheet cake. LOL! But the sentiment was Grade-A gourmet bakery.

LOL! You are so right! I hadn't noticed that. Somer's already taken, so somebody made a frosting mistake.
