Well, it's pretty much all over except the deletion of personal stuff from the hard drive, this career thing I've been doing for the last thirty-something years. Twelve days left, only seven of them actual workdays.

In the dozen days since this post and your comment, I've come to accept that my work--maybe even my personality--was valued around that place. I don't know if I'll ever stitch up the rents in the fabric of my self-concept, but leaving work certainly didn't hurt.

In the dozen days since this post and your comment, I came to realize how very true it is that these things are for those left behind. I think I ended up striking a pretty good balance between my own wish to sidle out with no fanfare and their wish to have a party. I had some nice one-on-one interactions with some nice coworkers, and some very nice feelings were expressed. It was A-OK.

The cake was...you know, government-issue grocery-store sheet cake. LOL! But the sentiment was Grade-A gourmet bakery.
