1. Coffitivity, the app I mentioned the other day that provides café sounds, is turning out to be something of a small miracle for me. On low volume, through earphones, it's like prosthetic concentration. I've been able to read! Really focus without skipping around, something I thought had been lost to me forever ( Read more... )

emeraldsedai.

So, any pings? *g*

That ping has been around for quite a while but it doesn't always give you the pingback. And I'm not sure whether it works with only entry posts or in comments as well.

It worked! Seriously, I have never seen this feature before today.

It didn't work when I mentioned myself in my own post, but it worked when you mentioned me in this comment, and it worked when someone else mentioned me in a post.

Hmmm. Thanks for testing!

It sounds as though your discovery of Coffitivity came just at the right moment for you to work on the editing job - synchronicity! Given the quality of your writing, I think you have a great future as a ghostwriter / editor.

Thank you. And yes, this just-so background noise is really opening up some doors for me that I thought age or hormones or the internet had permanently closed.

Notifying you when someone posted a link to your LJ has been around for a while (you had to turn it on though). I was unaware of the mentioning thing. That could be interesting and could be a bit weird, depending on what's said and if you really want to know and whatnot.

What's odd is that I didn't turn anything on. It's been AGES since I even looked at my LJ settings. Experiments show that it only works if a) you're not mentioning yourself and b) the mention is made directly in LJ. A mention in a Dreamwidth crosspost doesn't seem to have any effect.

Also, I'd assume that if you wanted to bypass someone else's pingback settings, you could just mention them without the user tags.

All in all, I like the pingback function. Google Plus (and, I'm pretty sure, Facebook) give you an easy way to see where you've been mentioned. In my world, it's a good way to join more conversations. I suppose in the brutal world of high-school cyberbullying, it could be a terrible thing.
