Good day...good day.

If you have to turn 54 (and yes, it is better than the alternative), there are worse ways to spend the day than riding your bike to BikeCraft V, a huge, sunny warehouse full of vendors with cool bike stuff--stuff for bikes, stuff about bikes, stuff made out of bike parts ( Read more... )

cycling, birthdays, sam and dean the stray cats, podbang, writing, riding clyde

Thank you, sir. It's not belated. When your birthday falls on a Saturday, it officially lasts through the Sunday.

Happy Birthday: The Extended Edition!

I find that the key to entering into any new culture is longevity. At first, you'll be on the outside looking in, but after the Bike People see you a few times, you'll get the occasional nod of acknowledgment, and as you get up to speed with the Ongoing Sagas, and can say "Hi, Mike--what did the vet find when you took in your cat last week?" or "Have you heard from Jill? Does she like her new job?" then you will move from the periphery to the center.

Mind you, sometimes it's interesting at the center and sometimes it isn't.

You're quite right--both that I'll move toward the center with longevity, and that the center probably isn't All That. My main interest is bringing cycling's center more towards me--in that, more products, services and cycle culture in Portland serves my needs.

I'm pleased to report that I've got my lycra-wearing, competitively athletic sister participating in Cycle Chic--she rode to the symphony last night in high heels and a cashmere overcoat and felt very empowered.

What a delightful day you had! And hopefully are continuing to have today, as you learn the intricacies of the chocolate arts. ;) Looking forward to your reports on the class -- I know str8ontilmornin was excited.

The very best of Happy Birthday wishes, may your year ahead hold many days like these.

I meant to take pictures, but my hands were covered with chocolate for most of the morning so that didn't quite work out. It was an excellent class and str8ontilmornin is a great teacher. I brought a pound and a half of various truffles and filled chocolates to the office, where I hope my coworkers will help me eat them up.

I shall be reporting more in a bit.

Damn! I was so caught up in getting my finals done and grades turned in before break that I missed being on time to say happy birthday. But happy belated birthday anyway!
