To me, the word formula has two meanings: a recipe and a guide for performing math.

What is the context you're talking about?

shit I'm realizing I never looked at your google doc because I got home from work and was a potato of tiredness.

It was just seeing people going "A formula for defeating... what is this, math class?" on a community. I was just perplexed that people didn't seem to get it.

Unless it was just a colossal fail on my part at understanding Internet sarcasm XD, which is entirely possible.

IT'S OKAY. I FORGIVE YOUR FAIL.

But can you come and my dreams and free me from highschool? It's been a month, it's getting really old.

Nah, I'm with you.

"Devise a formula" = "hatch a plan"

Although the more I think about it, the less "formula" seems like a real word. Form-u-la. For-mula.

XD I think any word starts to do that when you look at it too often or think about it too hard.

But good to know <3!

....I know that 'formula' can be used in other situations than math, but is it a common thing?

It's pretty common roundabouts where I live. It's certainly not archaic or unusual, which is why it perplexes me that so many people haven't seen it used in non-mathematical contexts, unless it simply doesn't get used as much that way outside where I am ^^.

over here formula can mean mathematical equation, recipe or CUNNING PLAN.

Yes! "Devised a formula" sounds so fantastically Evil Scientist, I think.
