I notice the writers this year seem to be doing little replays of old Clana scenes with Clois, and sorta showing how they turn out differently in Clois relationship.
When I was watching Persuasion? I saw one, and man, I think it HAS to be deliberate.
So season 8, episode 14 was Requiem.
Season 9, episode 14 was Persuasion.
The loft scenes in each? The parallels hit me right away.
Requiem: Scene takes place in loft.
Persuasion: Scene takes place in loft (the first Clois loft scene this season I feel like)
Requiem: Lana is infected with kryptonite.
Persuasion: Lois is infected with a form of kryptonite.
Requiem: Clark doesn't know how to cure Lana.
Persuasion: Clark doesn't know how to cure Lois.
Requiem: Lana tells Clark she's leaving him, it hurts to be around him and not be able to with him.
Persuasion: Lois tells Clark she's leaving him, it hurts to be around him because she doesn't think she can be what he wants.
Pretty big similarities. Except, as has happened all season, the Persuasion scene ended up much differently.
In Requiem, Clark asked Lana to stay, but she refused, and left (and he let her go) after one last kryptonite kiss that had Clark suffering the effects of kryptonite poisoning during it.
In Persuasion, Clark asked Lois to stay. She refused at first, but Clark DID NOT give up. Even though she was mind-whammied and he knew it, and so he also knew she'd eventually go back to normal and things would be fine, she'd come back.
But he couldn't let her go. He told her she WAS home, and then promised her they'd be together always. And when Lois asked if he meant it, Clark realized he DID (this moment was perfectly played by Welling). It was like, he knew he loved her, knew he wanted to be with her in a relationship but in that second, he KNEW what he said was true. He wanted to be with her always.
And Lois ran into his arms and kissed him, believing in him, and he held her close with the sweetest look on his face.
Like I said, I don't know if it was intentional? But man, the parallels were a striking coincedence if they weren't.
