My suggestion would to be find a day when you're off from work and can drive around looking at apartment complexes -- or call around to see if any have any specials. Maybe you can find a place that is doing a no-security deposit or first month free. Don't tell them you have cats >_> and then later you can tell them you're getting cats and then pay the pet deposit. You might also be able to find a home to rent on Craigslist.

Seriously messed up. I would go with what Sos suggested, and also try move.com for local areas and move-in specials and there's also the newspaper.
