For the past week I have been fighting my rekindled obsession with 30th 31st century teen angst and weird science.

I give.

I am once more enamored of Legion of Super-Heroes, the only DC book I ever read on a regular basis. I gave up on the entire DC universe shortly after the original Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I haven't given the post-Zero ( Read more... )

RETCONS BE DAMNED! I've spent the last week going through wikipedia and reading the different "pasts" of characters... and OMG I want to hit DC with a big fat STICK. Oh yeah this, no wait, RETCON! HAHA~ No wait we lied that's now part of continuity... but THIS PART ISN'T!

Is it any wonder why I LOVED the animated universe? They didn't even really retcon any of the stuff that happened in the first season of batman TAS. And that was way back in '92! I swear I only read the elseworlds stuff anymore.

YES. This is why I stopped reading DC almost entirely, with the occasional exception of a trade here and there (and Vertigo, of course, but Vertigo doesn't count). You people hurt my head with your inability to keep track of what happened to your own characters, dammit. Marvel may come up with completely implausible reasons for things, but at least they try!

I'm not too happy with Marvel either these days, but at least they only assrape their characters. They don't take a studded sandpaper dildo to their entire readership as well.

You know, I've even turned my back on Marvel for the last couple of years. They may not have the same stupid desire to rewrite history completely every week, but they really turned me off a couple of years ago when they decided they had to get "hard" and "gritty" and "real" in the fallout post movies. That and the spring cleaning of killing off 3/4s of the Marvel universe because no one had used some of those characters recently (or just because they felt like getting rid of them) all came off as mean spirited and not really good for any kind of story I'd want to read.

Phantom Girl! Don't forget Phantom Girl with the ponytails and the white outfit.

As if it isn't obvious Phantom Girl was my fave and when we played Legion in the early 70's, I was always PG. ;)

Oh, I totally love Tinya! And yes, I thought of her white bellbottom jumpsuit with the cutouts too, when I was recalling the Grell costume designs.

Actually, I thought the designs were Cockrum, and Grell took over and kept them. Cockrum rocked with costumes. Not that I didn't love Grell's stuff. He wrote some good comics as well.

A quick search, and I think you are right, and Cockrum took over from Grell. Faugh. My brain is fried and I'm not thinking correctly.
