moving on....

Well I've told a few people, maybe everyone by now, that I'm moving away from California:  downsizing and needing to live more frugally.

I've been working hard, sorting through stuff to throw out, donate, store, and/or try to bring with me...  It has been a huge hassle really.

I have close friends here who are willing to store the Chagalls, but I don't really expect to have a place to put them any time soon... I expect to be dealing w/furnished places (like sublets or extended stay hotels) for quite a while.... I would be happier knowing they were in a permanent situation where they won't get mildewed or wrecked ( ... )

It's getting to where there are so many cities that are getting incredibly expensive to live in. Miami is getting to be one of them.

I hate that you have had to give away so much of your stuff. But I know you'll find a nice place to put down some roots.

or I could be rootless...
There is a huge downside to having to constantly move all my stuff (even when there is less of it) from place to place...
but an upside in getting to see and do new things.

I've never been interested in Texas, but I would love to spend some time w/my cousins, and particularly w/my Aunt... And I've never been to the Gulf coast in Texas (only from Florida's panhandle and around the Tampa/Sarasota areas). So I'm even excited about Texas! lol

It does sound like a great adventure though.

I think there will be elements of adventure...
and luckily I enjoy long distance driving (I find it very relaxing)

I hope I'll be able to get online easily to share my experiences here online!

Moving is a bitch.

When are you planning to pull up roots? That's a really hard thing to do. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Well the moving part is a bitch, but I'll get through it...
I plan to hit the road (literally) on August 31st, and head to Arizona where I have tickets to attend the first (and only?) Terry Pratchett Discworld Convention in North American (or in any of the Americas), I've had tickets for almost 2 years, and Terry Pratchett is planning on being there... it should be great.

Then I plan to dawdle across Arizona & New Mexico doing some sight seeing.... And get to Texas around the 3rd week in September. My cousin Liz has offered her home as my home base (which is really a relief, it'll make everything easier), so I can visit my Aunt and all my Texas cousins, and maybe check out the Gulf coast.... I'm actually really looking forward to all of this, so I'm sure it is a good thing. Sorry about all the whining in the post above.

Well, since you're going to be living out of your car for a couple months or more, I'll hold off on sending you anything until you have a place of your own again. I've been working on stuff for you. Remember that meme? You sent me a Dalek (<333!) and I've been working on stuff for you off and on. I've finally gotten myself into gear and nearly got your present done. I was trying to finish it up and get it sent off in the next week or two, but it can wait. It'll mean more when you have your own place again!!

It sounds like a lovely trip, I think you'll have a great time. Do you have any idea where you want to end up?

my cousin in Texas is going to let me use her house as home base, so I can have mail forwarded there, and unload my car there... I think I may go ahead and get my car registration et al moved there too, because its gotta be less than California!

Thank you ahead of time for the stuff you've worked on! I finally got my hand made thing off to ancientgirl recently....

I want to end up in NYC, but we'll see what fate has in store for me, at any rate my cousin's generosity has made the planning of all this much easier!
