So when I first heard the news about Jason Dohring's being cast in Moonlight, I was dubious. It seemed a lot like a step down, career-wise

At this point it's hard to say if JD is being typecast. This character is definitely darker than Logan. On the other hand, he seems less conflicted about who or what he is. I guess the typecasting would depend on whether the show survives long enough. Considering VM wasn't mainstream or widely watched, not even in the industry, I wouldn't worry about that just yet

That could mean -- given the fact that this show is not very likely to survive however good or bad the writing is (the Friday time slot, the non-mainstream premise) -- it bodes much better chances for him to land a pilot for the next fall. In the meantime we get to see him.
One of them, certainly. :) Along with the fact that he gets to work again so soon, that it should (I hope) boost his confidence (the boy seems to have no ego at all, which is great in life but can be a bit of a handicap in Hollywood), get him out there as more recognizable in the industry, add to his resume, and give us a chance to see him come fall. :)
I watched the preview on CBS.com. It's awful. I'm glad it's being completely retooled. Never having watched Buffy/Angel and never having read vampire stories I'm trying to keep an open mind. Mainly I'm just ready to enjoy JD's performance and lovely presence on screen. I suppose it will start taping soon?
Hmmm, I hadn't even heard about this. I guess that's what happens when I'm away from LJ for a couple of days! It doesn't sound that great, to be honest, but it really depends on the chemistry between the actors and the writing, I guess. No matter - I'll be glad to see him on my screen again, and maybe it'll lead to something else.
Yes, you have to keep up around here!! I keep telling myself that I didn't even watch the first season of VM in real time because the whole premise sounded silly to me. So I'm trying to keep an open mind about this one. And even if it does suck, there are a lot of upsides, as others have pointed out! :)
