There's a joke in Bleach about how there's so many characters, Kubo Tite probably has their character sheets on his wall instead of wallpaper.
Maybe Kishimoto's got stick-its all over his wall with things like "Crow Itachi" attached to it. Then he looks at it and goes "..What did that mean again? Which volume was-- -_- I need to start numbering these things by chapter."
As for what it is, I'm guessing it's a defense against the Sharingan. Itachi has a pretty good idea of what Sasuke would end up doing. That, plus Madara being after him and Itachi being.. a good boy (*cough* >_>), I can see him using his own chakra to provide a defense against it. Especially since genjutsu and the like are Naruto's weakness.
