Writer's Block: A Posthumous Oscar for Joker?

 No. Honestly.

I know people are upset that he's not here on earth with us, and I understand that. But no, just because he's dead doesn't mean he deserves an Oscar. I haven't seen The Dark Knight, and don't intend to, but I'm sure his performance, while probably good, isn't Oscar-worthy. I'm sorry he's dead. But that doesn't mean that because he's ( Read more... )

If you haven't seen the movie...GO WATCH IT!!!

His performance is so freaking great!! I think he should get an Oscar even if he isn't alive anymore.

I'm sure his performance, while probably good, isn't Oscar-worthy.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there were rumors of his Oscar nomination after the movie was finished, but BEFORE he died. Yes, the fact of his death is probably fuelling this, but there were a LOT of people that thought it was Oscar-worthy long before he died.

Like people have said in the comments above me, you should really go see the movie before making that statement. I knew who he was long before his death, and I think he deserves the Oscar because he was an absolutely outstanding actor. Not because he's not around anymore. If you watched a handful of the movies he did, I'm sure you would agree as well that he was capable of being extremely versatile (just check out the contrast between the characters he played in Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight), a characteristic trait for good actors.

This isn't the first time there are rumors circulating that he might win an Academy Award either, he was actually nominated for one in 2005 for his role in Brokeback Mountain. This proves that people were obviously aware of his acting skills prior to his death, so why shouldn't he get praise for The Dark Knight when he played the role so spectacularly?
