I am a very lucky man - my wonderful wife and I share many interests in common.  Far more, I think, than the average couple.  But our interests do not coincide 100%.

I am not an engineer.

Today mechanteanemone  wanted to get up early to be out at a construction site here in Eureka by 7:00 to see some cool engineering thing involving shoving a pipe through another ( Read more... )

Seriously. There was nothing to see but a hole with a length of pipe sticking out of it. It's not like there was a cool, gothic looking piece of equipment like something out of Girl Genius sitting around that you could watch in operation. The ram looked like a big metal box (and it was down in the hole). The winch on the other side looked like a big, metal box (the most interesting feature of which was the logo of the company, which featured three gophers in hardhats pulling a cable). And the pumps? They looked like - big metal boxes.

Is life really so boring in Seattle these days that you and John could want to see photos of a pipe sticking out of a hole in the ground? I had no idea that Eureka had become such a happening place!
