OK...I have to comment 1) that made me pee my pants 2) We make fun of that song at school all the time 3) i have to be a total geek and explain the theory behind it.

Pachebels canon is based on a technique called sequencing. You might have heard of the circle of fifths before. Well, that bass line is called a decending fifths pattern and is common in all forms of music. Basically, Pachebel isnt a musical genius, he just ran out of ideas and used the simplest thing possible and some how made this hit. Think of the canon as the pet rock of music.
