Oh my god.

As it is I'm sniffling and blinking back tears.

This is... SO shattering. Heartbreaking. But not just sad. It's so...real. Not necessarily in-character or anything like VM, but it didn't need to be. It's beautiful. Wow.

It's not really VM specific. I tried to bring in little things, but it's mostly a story I felt compelled to tell in some form.

Bringing in the little things definitely worked. My point was not that it was non-VM in a bad way, just that it was, as you said, a story you could tell in various forms/fandoms. It worked very well as VM.
