Spink was accidentally named after a county in South Dakota. No joke. The day she came into my life, I had done a lab in my GIS class that focused on Spink county, South Dakota. When I came home and suddenly had to name a cat, I pulled the word "Spink" out of thin air! I didn't remember until a couple of years later when Steve took the same class that it had been in the lab.
Root and Echo are both Linux terms. When we had the pair of them, we figured we should do something cute and connected with their names. After a lot of ideas being thrown out, we realized that Echo was doing anything Root was doing. So she was named first. Root kind of just seemed to be a natural compliment :)
Ahh! I find that if I spend a little while with the kitty before naming it the cat kind of just names itself. And it always turns out to be the "right" name ;)
