One of Light's strongest followers (worshipers?) needed help, and so Light extended a hand, even if it was with hidden ulterior motives. What a good way to secure Ritsuka's loyalty than to give him a hand in his time of need. It would also be a good time to learn more of this 'shinigami'.

Light opened the door upon the knocking. He felt shorter, which was incredibly strange. At least he wasn't female this time. So this was the shinigami, supposedly. Rather short, wasn't he.

"Ritsuka-kun, do come in," Light invited him.

"Fighter?" that was an interesting term. Perhaps this was some sort of affectionate term for a guardian or a protector. Whatever the case, Light's interest was somewhat piqued.

He looked up at Yagami, his cheek resting on his knees. "Soubi is my fighter, I'm his sacrifice, ah... it's not as... weird as it sounds though," actually it was weirder than Light probably expected. "Um... I guess, the best way to put it, is that he was was the sword, I was the shield when we battled."

"Battled?" Light had never took Ritsuka for a fighter or a defender of any sort. This kid seemed more useful the more Light spoke with him. He was emotionally needy at times, but he was very useful to Light.

He nodded and moved to grab the glass of milk.

"From what I understand, there's a fighter and a sacrifice and never more than one of each. The fighter is the one who casts the word spells or the other forms of battle and the sacrifice takes on all aspects of the damage, a fighter and sacrifice are decided by shared names and a fighter without a sacrifice is severely weakened since they would then take on the damages from the other pairs, likewise a sacrifice themselves cannot do much without a fighter in a word battle."

He eyed the cookies, tempted to take one but he turned back to Light.

"However, the sacrifice, as well as taking all the damage orders the fighters attacks and defenses, to a degree anyways. The sacrifice, because we are essentially the shield have the most power in the pair. If I really wanted," and he didn't, "my orders would last even after my death. Ah...." he rubbed his nose. "I hope I didn't confuse Yagami-san?"

"No it is quite interesting," Light replied, turning the idea of a fighter and a sacrifice over in his head. "I have never heard anything of the sort." So this person here had a great deal of untapped power. Interesting. Light would simply have to get a matching fighter as well to utilize their power. But that was for later plans.

"You're welcome to the cookies," he added.

"I don't know very much about it, but Soubi, my fighter he knows everything about it, he's the best fighter," or so everyone kept saying and he was happy to agree. "We're bonded and paired off by our true names instead of our everyday ones, it's sort of like marriage where the last name is taken but it's shared and given to us at birth, I think. But very few people are chosen," he had no clue why he had been chosen that was for.

He took a cookie, nibbling on it, the fact that he could the vast amount of damage made him wonder if sacrifices weren't just very resilient punching bags.

This was quite interesting. Someone destined to be a shield in battle. But it seemed not just any fighter would do. Ritsuka needed his fighter, Soubi. Light would just have to use Ritsuka to convince Soubi, if he were to ever return, to join them. Perfect.

Light suddenly stood up. He was out of coffee. "Would you like more milk, Ritsuka-kun?"

"Ah, no, but thank you for the offer Yagami-san," he smiled up at the god of justice, all trusting. Really the boy might of as well wrapped himself up in a box with a bow and a card reading 'To help over-throw the world, little to no bloodshed guaranteed'.

"I really do hope it lasts only a week," he touched the top of his head again, heeling the empty space where his ears should have been.

"Hopefully tradition will hold true, Ritsuka-kun," Light said reassuringly, as he retreated into the kitchen, then emerged with a fresh cup of iced coffee.

"Since we're being honest, I suppose I have a confession," Light admitted, sitting down. Not that Ritsuka needed any more assurance that Light was not Kira, Light was about to throw the winning pitch. "In truth, while I miss Kanto, I could never return." Light gave a heavy sigh. "I actually died in the battle with the mass murderer, Kira. I suppose this is my second chance at life." Light took a solemn sip of coffee. "So I suppose as long as you're stuck here, you're stuck with me."

Ritsuka's eyes widened and Light suddenly found himself the center of a hug and purring, that it was from a body that was not only dead but not Ritsuka's face was probably a disturbing fact, never-mind the hug itself.

"Yagami-san I'm so sorry! I know you really care about the justice and the truth of things, but Yagami-san has so much honor in him," he smiled. He wouldn't touch on the fact that Light saying that so long as Ritsuka was on the ship he would always have the older man. It was why he had purred after-all. He hugged Light tight before pulling away, smiling. "You too Yagami-san, you have me too, though I don't know how much use I can be, I make a pretty mean omelet if nothing else."

Light returned the embrace when Ritsuka hugged him. The deal was sealed. Light had Ritsuka's absolute loyalty. Just as planned.

Light let go of the former kitty. "I'm sure you're of great use."

He blushed and smiled, rubbing the back of his head.

"Thank you Yagami-san."

He was completely unaware that he had basically sold his (and Soubi's) soul to the devil with a pretty face.

Few realized they had stepped into his trap. This was his power, his ability to coerce unsuspecting people in, to use them as necessary, to complete his ultimate goal of a utopia free of crime.
