“Hey Don, morning.” Megan said with a grin. She leaned in and whispered, “And happy birthday.”
“Thanks.” Don gave her appreciate smile that she was keeping what today was on the low down. “You still coming over to Charlie’s later for dinner?”
“And miss out on your dad’s cooking? You know I’d be there birthday or not. I’m gonna ride over with Larry.” She said before walking away.
As he made his way to his desk David stopped him. “Hey Don, uh I got you a cup of your favorite.” He handed Don a Styrofoam cup from the Bean & Leaf. “You know for today.”
“Thanks David.”
“Hey Don, Happy Birthday!” Colby boomed, as he clasped Don on the back.
“Granger.” Don groaned.
Colby grinned, “Hey, I had every intention on keeping things quiet like you asked but apparently someone else had something else in entirely in mind. You need to see your desk, and no I had nothing to do with it.”
Don’s eyebrows knitted together part in annoyance and puzzlement. He walked slowly over to his desk and was stunned at the sight in front of him. His desk was covered in several bulk boxes of Extra, chewing gum with ribbon tied around them, stacked neatly around his paperwork. In the center was a note card, his name written on it, he flipped it open to read. “Happy Birthday Enjoy the gum. Don recognized the handwriting instantly; he smiled to himself as he started plotting his own revenge.
