[Translation] SMAP Magazine: Off Shots (Tsu and Shingo)

Off Shot: Kusanagi Tsuyoshi

Q: What are you into recently?

A: Rice with raw egg on top. It is so luxurious to have fresh egg serve on top of freshly cooked rice.

Q: What do you want to eat now?

A: Soup. I want to heal my body that was tired from dancing.

Q: In terms of cooking, what is your signature dish lately?

A: Making “dashi” (soup base). Kusanagi style soup base contains shiitake (mushrooms) and konbu (kelp) as the basic ingredient, and Japanese flying squid as the hidden flavor. Using that I can make the most delicious miso soup that contains potato and onion!

Q: What are you like at home?

A: I like to wear gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. (I forgot what the brand is)

Q: What do you wear when you sleep?

A: Pajama. During the ending talk after the airing of “Iitomo,” Tamori-san said to us, “The Friday Iitomo team members you all go buy pajamas!” Since then I have always worn pajamas.

Q: What is the best part of your private clothes today?

A: Denim set and leather boots. Although everyone thinks I wear the same thing everyday, I actually mix and match my clothes (smile). Since I am going for a more uniformed look I match my outfit with leather shoes. Frankly I want to wear sneakers since it is summer, but I am willing to suffer for the sake of good style.

Q: Please describe your ideal breakfast?

A: Shabu Shabu (a type of Japanese hot pot), rice, and miso soup. I want to eat meat during breakfast to give me energy for activities during the day. The fat of the meat is washed out in the Shabu Shabu so even if it is 200g of meat in the morning I can still finish it all.

Q: What do you like to have in your onigiri’s (rice ball)?

A: I can’t decide since I like all the different kinds.

Q: How many pairs of shoes do you have?

A: So many pairs that I can wear a different pair everyday for a month.

Q: Are you a shower kind of person? Or a bath kind of person?

A: I prefer taking a bath no matter how tired I am. I am the happiest when I can bring a book or a magazine with me into the bath, then space out and relax. I like to use the bath salt that I received from my fans.

Q: Are you collecting anything in particular?

A: Sunglasses. Since I have short hair now, I don’t look very good in hats anymore. Out of the 10 pairs of sunglasses I collected, one pair was snatched away by Katori-kun.

Q: A message for the 2010 SMAP!

A: Please do your best in the concerts! SMAP’s origin is in live concerts. It has been two years since our last concert tour so I feel very strongly about having the concert as another starting point and taking off from there. My feelings are always firmed up when we release albums, this is especially true with “We Are SMAP.” I wonder if the members feel the same?

Off Shot: Katori Shingo

Q: What do you want to eat now?

A: Probably curry. (Answering while eating the bento provided to him)

Q: What flavor ramen noodles do you like?

A: Salt. I might not look it, but I prefer light tastes.

Q: In terms of cooking, what is your signature dish lately?

A: Frozen food. The company “Aji no Su” has quite good products.

Q: What are you like at home?

A: I like to wear souvenir T-Shirts that I bought overseas. It’s not like I wear them when I go out.

Q: What is the best part of your private clothes today?

A: A shirt with the name “Mr. Shingo” on it that I bought in Tom Brown’s store in New York. The shoes are Christian Dior. I first saw a pair of really cute lady shoes with red sole; I found the same design in the men’s line so I bought them immediately. I love this pair of shoes.

Q: Which country do you want to visit?

A: New York. Although I stayed there for a month during “Talk Like Singing,” I was not able to enjoy my time fully while I was there. I want to visit Time’s Square and art museums. I want to get a taste of the life I had there for one more time.

Q: Please describe your ideal breakfast?

A: A hotel’s breakfast buffet. Normally I don’t eat breakfast. But when I travel overseas I enjoy the hotel’s breakfast buffet fully.

Q: What do you like to have in your onigiri’s (rice ball)?

A: Konbu (kelp). I also like red rice onigiri.

Q: How many pairs of shoes do you have?

A: I have never counted but I have over 50 pairs.

Q: Are you a shower kind of person? Or a bath kind of person?

A: Probably half and half. I take showers when I am short on time, but if possible I like to take baths.

Q: Are you collecting anything in particular?

A: Apple products. MacBook, iPad, softbank’s iPhone 4. I want to tease myself when I go out carrying all that with me, “Just how much do you like Apple products?!”

Q: A message for the 2010 SMAP!

A: Along with “We Are SMAP” and the concert, we were all leading hard lives. Because of that many good songs were born. Since we have already taken off, let’s enjoy this show by show! I am also praying for a smooth ending to our concert tour.
