So, who do I vote for now?

I live in a staunchly Labour London inner city borough, where even the pigeons vote Labour (Labour got 69.9% of the vote in 2001). I come from a life long labour supporting background but despite this (or perhaps because of this) I have never been able to support Reverend Blair or the New Labour Project. I am in a similar ideological position to you but have decided to 'waste' my vote on a minority party, probably Green. I think there will be a greater number of protest votes this time around and while they may be ineffectual in securing a seat in parliament, they do at least register a voice of dissent and are crucial in enableing the minority parties to keep going. Not voting may help to undermine the legitimacy of politicians but I think it also helps them in thinking they can just bulldoze through what they want ie if they believe no-one will protest against their actions then they are less wary of them.

It's a depressing times in politics. If it hadn't been for the war in Iraq I may have tried to convince myself of Labour's successes - low unemployment; financial stability; campaigning on green issues; devolution in Scotland, Wales and London; and a statutory minimum wage; however, there is no going back now.
