Booooooooks!

I was amused by this meme when hello_mango did it, so here it is. I, however, am adding a new bit to it because my book collection is f'ing huge. :)
Bold means I read it. Italics means that I own it (or my husband does) but haven't yet read it. Normal font means I don't own and haven't read it.

Books! )

What is this Eregon? :)

Star Dragon has taken me about a month or two. cptwinky recommended it, but the characters and the setting are a little more alien to me than I like. It took me way too long to find any interest in the characters.

How were/are the recent ones?

The only one I can speak on in your "not read" list is Fight Club. If you liked the movie, the book may be worth it for you. It's not the same as the movie - decently, the movie put emphasis on the things they could show which the book would bog down in (the fights) while neglecting what never translates well (the mental weirdness). I liked it and it caused me to try several others of Chuck's books, which are actually more out there and sick.

The Blitzkrieg Myth annoys me, since it's conclusions are based on a willful misreading and misunderstanding of the military history of World War II.

History of Warfare is typical Keegan - broadly scoped, emminently readable, not a premise I 100% accept, but find well-argued and supported.

A History of Folly should be required reading for these times.

The Star Wars novels were good pop-candy fun. I read them over my work lunches, and had fun.

Strangely enough, I've read a couple other of Chuck's books (Survivor and Choke) but not Fight Club, mostly cause it was always out at the library. I like his style... in part, it reminded me of Neal Stephenson's work in Snow Crash, Zodiac and Diamond Age. It's not an exact match or anything, but I found some echoes there.
