When you have suffered a disappointment there are certainly worse ways to console yourself than reading Jane Austen, and so tonight I have read the entirety of Sense and Sensibility for the first time.

( My thoooooooooughts, for the three people who do not care to be spoilered )

I guess you have to be in the right mindset? I tried reading P&P soon after I saw the BBC series, and could not get through more than a chapter. It grew on me!

And then there was the time I tried to read The Hobbit almost immediately after seeing FOTR for the first time, and I fell asleep. Really, it is amazing how many books need a second or third try to become readable.
