50 Shades of "wtf is that hype about?"

Aug 12, 2012 23:17

The 50 Shades of Grey trilogy has accounted for one in every five hard-copy fiction books sold this spring, not including children's literature, according to Nielsen BookScan. Holy crap one might say. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Grey books are poised to cross the 20 million mark any day now, with a pretty even split between physical ( Read more... )

Thanks for the warning to never read these books! :D
I completely agree with "know what you mock", but I'm also prone to quit really fast when something isn't fun (after all, that's why I'm reading/watching it, right?) Kudos to you for sticking with this awfulness, and sharing your opinion on it with us. Now I'll know to avoid this at all costs :P

And thanks for those links at the end, they were funny/insightful! :)

And ugh how do people mistake this abusive relationship for "romantic"?
*curls up in despair*

I always like to think that those women aren't all that dumb, just brainwashed and/or uneducated. (I think this is my way of keeping faith in humanity - you can educated the uneducated, but you can make dumb people smarter)

I love you for this post. I am saving and will be using those links for the low reaching of my family and friends that think 50 shades is OMG SO HOT. URGH. This is what happens when you are unaware of just how misogynistic a society you live in. Women really need to be more AWARE and INFORMED. Christ on a cracker, women are moving backwards instead of forward > :

Thank you!! ♥

IT BOGGLES MY MIND. AN OPPRESSIVE RELATIONSHIP IS NOT THE SAME AS A DOM/SUB RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO CONSENTING ADULTS. One is based on trust and the other on NO TRUST.

It is one thing being man-handled in the bedroom. Or even tied up or dominated or what have you. BUT BEING CONTROLLED IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE BECAUSE YOUR SO IS A TOTAL STALKER AND CONTROL FREAK IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT, VERY UNROMANTIC THING. And they are NOT TO BE CONFUSED with one another.

Some women are just so so so SO DUMB. It is infuriating.

LIKE. She wants to keep working even though he is filthy rich and wants him to stay out of her career. He buys the whole company she worls for to control her work environment. HOW IS THAT ROMANTIC? And instead of tearing him a new one, she gets all soft because he smells so good and his hair is so shiny. And they have sex.

GOD. I SWEAR. I had real rage blackouts while reading.

OH. Also he is insanely jealous because he thinks her boss is going to make a pass at her. Of course he thinks that about every guy she ever talks with. And she gets mad at him for being so jealous and controlling and mean to her friends. But then it turns out he is right and her boss does make an inappropriate pass at her and she is SO SORRY because she was angry with him. And then they have sex. ARGH. ONE DOESN'T CANCEL OUT THE OTHER.

Sorry. I could go on like this for HOURS. ;)

Ahahaha, excellent review! I'm gonna have to get round to reading these things, just so I can play my favourite Twilight game with them: Yes, I read it, that's how I know it sucks.

Also, that Richard Speight/Matt Cohan thing made me cry with awkward laughter.

I’m about halfway through the first book but I’ll doubt I’ll ever finish it. It’s just so bad. The "plot" and the writing. I agree with you on the whole inner goddess thing. But you forgot all the ”oh my”. Gah!

I really liked the musical btw!
