Note:
- this report has mentioned something about the upcoming western episode. I don't see it as a spoiler, but think I should warn those of you who hate any possible spoilers
I was lucky to sit near Jensen again in Sunday’s M&G; since I’m a lot calmer than yesterday, I got to sum up enough courage and looked at him more closely…not in a creepy way, I assure you!
He’s kinda tanned, I think, and so was Jared in Saturday’s M&G. I wonder if it’s Vancouver finally stops raining or LA being extra sunny? Anyway he looks gorgeous as usual and *coughcough *smells like heaven*cough cough *
He said hello to us, and told us that he will not tour Rome this time and will set out on Monday. Last year he have a great time travelling around Rome, when driving past the ruins and everything, he thought of a comedian who once said he’s from Europe and that’s where history is from.
Unlike Jared, he asked us to fire away questions right after the small talk.
The first question is: I believe that different directors would direct any scene in different ways. Since you have experienced directing in S6, I'm just wondering whether there are episodes in Season 1 through 5 and the rest of Season 6 that you'd like to go back and direct yourself? (Thanks to my dear teacosy@LJ for this wonderful question!)
I remember Jensen’s answer is he loves directing some easy ones to accumulate experience before directing those difficult ones e.g. the season finale. For past episodes, In my time of dying came into his mind as he really love that episode, it is strong, powerful and unique. It also has his fav scene in which Sam came in the room, found Dad died, dropped his coffee cup on the ground and it stayed up. It was done in only one take, and it’s a pure coincidence that the cup stayed up. It is also one of Kim’s episodes so Jensen would have learned a lot from him.
The next question is whether Jensen had done conventions before and what does he and his wife think of cons and fans. Jensen said he’s only done autograph when he was in soap opera, it was nothing like this, just signing autographs in a supermarket for 1 hour then go. SPN is his first taste on conventions.
He also said Danneel is cool with him doing this but she herself would rather stay away. Because Jensen would be busy, hopping among all these different sessions. She seldom comes to set either, because Jensen has to focus on his work, cannot devote to her and she’d be a kind of distraction. Instead she sent him messages all the time, like ‘hey baby how’s going’, ‘say hi to the fans’ etc. Jensen promised us that he will pass our greetings to her, too. When he talked about the messages, the little shy smile on his face? ADORABLE.
Jensen is the same way too, doesn’t go to her set often. He only went there dropping off her gifts for the crew etc. We asked about how’s Danneel’s new show going, Jensen said sadly the show was cancelled. Danneel had done a pilot which was picked up last year, it filmed 13 episodes until NBC got a new president, he came in, looked thru all the shows that were ready but not yet on air, then just swiped those he doesn’t like. *cough*what a douche*cough* Millions of dollars just got wasted like that. But she is now doing a new pilot for NBC and its new president now.
Jensen continued to say that he drove to set of Danneel’s new show, only said a brief hello to the crew, shakes hands then leaving. The crew asked him to stay but Jensen felt that although it would be OK for both of them (him and Danneel) to be on set and they won’t have a problem with each other either, it would somehow change the dynamic a bit, just like if during his M&G Jared or Misha came in, he won’t have a problem but still might affect other people. Same as him being on set of Danneel’s new show, the other actors would point and say ‘look, her husband is on set!’ It’s exactly like in the office (office romance?). She wouldn’t be 100% focused on her work, her character etc. Jensen thought it is cool that he and Danneel could have that understanding between each other.
I’m don’t know or care about others but I personally respect Danneel for this.
The next question I think it’s if him and Jared knew how to ride horses. Jensen said they didn’t grow up with horses, but have family friends who have. Jensen rode his first horse when he was 6 years old. He always thought he was a cowboy, at the age or 4 or 5, his parents bought him the kind of horse toy which you can ride on it (and he demonstrated how it works, you can swing on it, or spring on it etc. Just so cute!) He used to ride it all day long, have a gun and western outfit - but no chaps - he has gun holster, leather jacket, sheriff star, all the stuff; every morning he wakes up put all of them on and head off to breakfast. When he’s 6 yrs old, his parents took him to friend’s ranch and he got to ride a horse. So he didn’t ride horse for a long time but definitely knows how.
I didn’t hear clearly but I think the follow up question was if he went to a ranch recently. He said no but the closest thing is when he moved to LA, he lived in a place near Burbank, where big horse shows were held. He has a friend who owns the horse rental place, you can rent horse walking up the hill to the back of the Hollywood signs. So when the horses have no show at weekend, he’d taken the horses one by one and ride for some time as excises.
Next was my question. I originally wanted to ask something about 605, but after hearing Jensen talking about riding a horse, another question pop up in my head. I actually thought of it just right before I took off to airport, however since it’s not a ‘serious’ question, it’s pretty low on my question list.
I thought it’s a good follow up question related to Jensen riding horse so I asked it anyway. And the original question? I will leave it to Nashville, if I get the chance to ask him.
Anyway, the question is that in the western episode, did Jensen and Jared get the chance to choose their cowboy outfit?
Jensen said he’s lucky as the writer wrote Dean as a big western fan. So basically they (Sam and Dean) dress up as what they think people dressed up back then, which was completely wrong. Of course, when they actually went back, Dean took the chance to buy some real western clothes. What’s amazing is that the cowboy outfit used in the episode were actually made by the costume department. They designed and made the clothes but the materials were ordered from Australia.
And Jensen did get to pick the outfits. He said he never goes do costume fitting before, because the costume people knows his size, what kind of clothes Dean would wear, he usually tells them to just throw whatever outfit they choose in his trailer and he will put them on.
But this time when they asked him ‘do you want to come and try the clothes’, Jensen was very excited and was like, ‘Absolutely! What we got?!’ And tried a bunch of different hats and clothes.
A girl asked about his cowboy hat, Jensen said it’s a big one, and Diane, the costume girl told him it’s all tailored for him. Actually they have these tailored costumes, like their boots, almost came up to his keen (he raised his leg and showed us how high the boots reach). But for some reason the people in LA doesn’t like the pants tucked in the boots. They have to put the boots inside the pants, since the pants were designed to be tucked in, it felt really tight and funny.
Yes, this is a shallow question but I don’t regret to ask, esp. after seeing him so excited and passionately talking about all those stuff about cowboys and outfits!
Again I didn’t get the next question but I think it’s about how it would be when the show eventually ends. Jensen said it would very emotional, as they’ve been together for so many years.
I think this is all I got! Should covered most of the questions asked in the session. But if you were there and see I missed anything or wrote anything wrong, please let me know, thanks!
Next project - complete con report of JIB3! But not before I watched this week's episode for 10 times, lol
